It is of a naturally gelatinous consistency. It is extracted from the seeds of a plant belonging to the Euphorbiaceae family, the Ricinus communis. Known in the West Indies as Carapat oil or Palmat Christi, it is traditionally recommended for external use to help fortify hair, nails and eyelashes.
